SANDBOARDING
The perfect activity for the adventurous!
Black Mountain is the youngest volcano in Central America, besides being one of the most active. Upon reaching the volcano technical training of the guide it is provided.
The rise can be a bit difficult because of loose stones and inclination. Frequent stops are made to provide information about the volcano. Before going to the steeper side to make the descent, you can go inside the crater. After receiving the final guidelines you can slide downhill to reach the base of Black Mountain.
According to our Bigfoot Nicaragua guide, the company tried several different types of boards perfecting the sport, including surfboards and snowboards. The sandboards used today resemble sleds, with a square of Formica is affixed to the bottom. This helps provide better traction when you're speeding downhill
In a word, sandboarding is intense. One of the most intense experiences of my life. Here's how it works. You grip a rope as you slide down, and lean ever-so-slightly to steer. If you need to slow down, you tap your (closed-toe) shoes on the gravel whizzing past. But watch out – tapping lopsidedly or too often can result in your taking a spill.
